Explore The Ubuntu Live CD

When you boot to a Ubuntu Live CD you have the choice of installating Ubuntu from the boot menu. (Choice #2) Or you can select the first option to test Ubuntu without making any changes to your computer. This is useful because it helps users test hardware for compatability while getting a good idea of how Ubuntu works before wasting their time on an install. If you choose to test the Ubuntu live CD first, note you can start the installation at any time by selecting the Install Ubuntu icon right on the desktop.

You may have noticed the Examples folder right above the install icon on the Ubuntu desktop. This folder holds many different file types and general Ubuntu documents that may help you decide if Ubuntu is right for you. Included in the Examples folder are various image files, Ubuntu adoption case studies, Ubuntu derivatives, and much more. This is a great place to get started with understanding the basics of Ubuntu, I recommend browsing through this content, atleast briefly. Understanding things like Ubuntu origin, style, and different flavors may seem trivial but it can significantly increase a newbies chance of solving basic issues or posting an effective question in a forum.
