Telnet

Allows you to connect to routers remotely instead of having to use a console port. To view sessions that are incoming to the router, type the show sessions command. The telnet command can be used at the router prompt. To telnet type the command telnet then type the ip address or hostname of the remote system that you want to telnet into.

If you are on a Windows machine, go to Run and Type in telnet. On a Linux machine, go to a terminal and type in “telnet” to start a session.

When you open a terminal this is what it will look like. Using the command “open” will allow you to type in the IP Address of the router you want to make contact with.
