Update Manager Basics

On the Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx desktop you may notice the Ubuntu Update Manager pops up on the bottom panel. This indicates software and security updates are available for your Ubuntu desktop.

Click on the Update Manager on your bottom panel or in the menu under System --- Administration --- Update Manager.

Updates are broken down into different categories on the Update Manager window. You can disable an update by clicking the check box on the left side of the update. Down at the bottom you can see the file size and total updates selected. With one individual update selected, you can see the Changes and Description tabs for that update. The Check button will allow you to check your system for any new updates while the Install Updates button will install all the selected updates.
