nmap: Security Scans
Security - Training

nmap Short Course

Nmap is a common, full featured scanner that is designed for previewing large networks to discern what ports and services are available on the network. Nmap employs various scanning techniques to determine port and service information. It even includes OS detection capabilities.

Security is becoming more important for network administrators in every location and with every operating system.

Nmap has limited capabilities for non-root users simply because many critical kernel interfaces will require root privileges. Although non-root usage will be briefly covered the focus is on using nmap as root. The non-root usage will focus on the graphical interface for nmap .
