I'm now on Ubuntu 9.04 Januty Jackalope. Horray! Now i need to know if Fspot is a good option for sorting a large amount of photos or do i need something better? I have about 200-300 and growing fast. What's the sort process like in Fspot?

Fspot makes a good photo collection tool because it ahs a fairly useful tagging system that is used to sort out all of your photos.
Here are 5 videos on Fspot including one on how to start tagging and sorting your photos.

Also check out Picasa photo viewer by Google, now available for Ubuntu Linux.
