Easy Ubuntu Installation |
Desktop Training - Ubuntu 8.04 |
The Desktop installation is simply a continuation of the Live CD. When the CD boots you have to option to select “Install Ubuntu” to begin the install process. The install process has been made very simple by Ubuntu as installation has been a serious problem for Linux and new users. Ubuntu eliminates much of the hassle associated with other installations such as application selections, network configuration and security settings. Each of these has been a difficulty for new Linux users.
Once you select “Install Ubuntu” you will need to indicate the language you want to install as the default.
Next set up your time zone by selecting you location on the map.
Choose the keyboard that corresponds to language that you installed.
One of the most difficult decisions you may need to make is how to partition your hard drive. With no knowledge of partitioning and partitioning schemes you are best served by selecting the default and allowing it to delete everything on the existing hard disk. CAUTION: This type of install will wipe out everything on the drive. This Guided choice to use the entire disk is however the easiest solution.
Create an account for the default user. Please note that the first user that you created on Ubuntu will be placed in the sudoers file so that they will be able to make modifications to the Ubuntu operating system while other users cannot by default. It is important that the system administrator be added to this first account. In addition, make note of the user and password. Name your computer anything you want, a shorter name is better.
Completion of this take will bring you to the summary screen which will list your settings.
