Open a New Document

When you want to open a document you have saved choose the folder icon which will open to your home directory. You will be presented with locations that may hold your document. This where an understanding of the file system in Linux will be helpful or an understanding where you placed your documents in Windows. Notice that it will show you all files including image files because by default the “File Type” is set to “All Files”.

Open a New Document

Select the page icon that will open a whole new document.

Open a Microsoft Word Document

A common issue is that you will need to open documents in other formats. Select the folder icon to open an existing document. Select the document, in the example test.doc, and then choose open. OpenOffice will automatically open in the proper format.
