Formulas - Order of Calculations
Desktop Apps Training - Calc

Calc gives priority to exponent, multiplication/division and then addition/subtraction. Basically Calc will calculate left-to-right but follows algebraic ordering rules.

Parentheses can be used to control the order of calculation. The formulas within parentheses are solved first. An example would be:

=(2+4)*3-(10/2+4) the answer is 9

The calculations within the parentheses are first and multiplication/division within the parentheses calculate next and then addition/subtraction in parenthesis. Now of course the calculations that you will use in Calc are cell references and not numbers for the most part but the numbers illustrate how it will work.
