Nagios XI: Wizard for Exchange
Server - Nagios

Nagios Xi provides a wizard that will help set up the monitoring for Exchange. Install the wizard and then begin the process of setting up Exchange.

Enter the IP Address of the server. Note that need to select the version of Exchange that you are using.

Enter a host name and be sure to enter the correct OWA path as that will be used to monitor the login page. The Windows agent is NSClient++ which must be installed in order to monitor Exchange. The password is a security feature that will be coordinated with NSClient++ on the server.

The metrics selected represent the major aspects that you want to monitor. Modify the blacklist check for those sites you want to check. If the OWA is using https make that change.

Select the core services to be monitored. Note that if one service fails the entire check will be listed as in a CRITICAL state. Modify the messages metrics for settings that represent the in and out flow of mail for this particular Exchange server.

Here is the result that you should see.

This is a list of the default services monitored by Nagios XI with the Exchange wizard.

MSExchangeADTopology

MSExchangeAntispamUpdate

MSExchangeEdgeSync

MSExchangeFDS

MSExchangeImap4

MSExchangeMailboxAssistants

MSExchangeMailSubmission

MSExchangeMonangePop3

MSExchangeRepl

MSExchangeSA

MSExchangeSearch

msftesql-Exchange

The wizard automatically sets up “ -d SHOWALL” which lists all of the service whether they are up or not. If you change that option to “-d SHOWFAIL” it will only show the service that has failed.

This provides an excellent place to start monitoring Microsoft-Exchange.
