Ubuntu Program Management |
Desktop Training - Ubuntu |
With Synaptic Package Manager, you can access the software repositories to download and install free software. Synaptic is one of the best package managers you'll find. It has a nice, clean graphical interface, and it conveniently groups the available packages by category. There's also a search function, so that you can find what you're looking for even if you don't know the full name of the package. The latest version of Ubuntu includes The Ubuntu Software center which is an even slicker way of managing software on the Ubuntu desktop. The Ubuntu Software Center is set to take the place of the Add/Remove programs feature included with the Ubuntu of old. The new Software Center adds many new package details and user functionalities making it even easier for users to balance installing, removing and other managerial package tasks. Select Applications --- Ubuntu Software Center.
Once you select a category in the Ubuntu Software Center main window, you should see a list of software packages in that category. Select one and then click on the arrow button to the right of the package.
Here the game we selected, Abuse, is shown below. A detailed description and enlargeable screenshot are displayed here for the users convenience. Click on the Install button. After clicking the Install button you'll notice the In Progress section is added to the options in the left column and our packages status is shown in the main window. Multiple packages can be qued here. After the package is installed we can see it in the Installed Packages area. The package can be removed using the same steps used to install it. Start by clicking the Remove button. Copyright CyberMontana Inc. and BeginLinux.com
