Access Shared FoldersThere are other ways to share files with family or co-workers. If you have nothing but Linux computers on your network, then you can use the Network File System, or NFS. If you have a mixed-operating system environment, with both Linux and Windows computers on your network, then you can use Samba. Either way, you'll be able to access a shared folder on another computer by just double-clicking on an icon in your graphical file manager. Here are the different ways that you can connect to a remote server. To access shared folders on other computers via Samba, you could choose "Windows share" from the drop-down menu. Then, you can fill in the data for the remote computer. Or, you could just click on the "Browse Network" button. Here you see two connections. One to SFTP, which is an SSH connection and the second lists the Windows Network connections.
If you click the SFTP connection it will ask you for a username and password. This will then allow you to connect to a shared SSH folder. Remember you will only have the rights of the user you login as. So if you login as mike you will only have mike's rights on the remote server.
