Vector Linux Installation

Lesson 1 / Lesson 3

On the first screen in vector Linux press the Enter key to start the Vector Linux installation.

Now select the default monitor resolultion you want to use by pressing the up and down keys on the keyboard.

Next choose the language you'll be using.

On this screen we can choose to use an existing disk partition or modify a partition to make room. I've selected modify.

This starts GParted where we can select the unallocated space we want to install Vector Linux on.

Then click Partition --- New.

Now we need to specify partition size, filesystem type and other options. I've made three different partitions SWAP 2 GB, BOOT 100 MB, and ROOT 5.6 GB. you can see the final result omn the screenshot below.

Click on the green checkmark icon right below the top menu. Now you should see the status bar and a message that operations have been completed.

Next close this window and then close GParted by selecting GParted --- Quit from the top menu.

With GParted closed the next options to set are the Mount Point and FileSystem options for all three partitions we just finished creating.

Next select Full or Custom instalaltion modes. Optional components can be turned off by clicking the check marks to the left of the packages name.

Now  set the individual packages you want to include. Click the check mark to disable a package.

This screen shows a summary for our Vector Linux installation including installation type, partition selections scheme, and software selection.

Now we can wait while Vector Linux is installed on our computer.

The first part of the installation process is complete when you see this message.

The first system configuration options to set are for the boot manager. Default settings are okay for newbies.

Now set the timezone settings by selecting the correct timezone for the area in which you live.

Set up your system administrator password and confirm it.

Here you can create a user account by specifying login name, real name, and password. Picture ID and User Rights Management settings also appear here.

On this screen we can set up our network configuration. By default DHCP is selected and will be activated at start-up. Also not the current status is "Plugged In" showing us we're all ready to go.

The configuration is complete. This completes the installation. Restart your computer.

Upon restarting you'll have a few more video settings to configure.

After that you'll be greeted by the Vector Linux login window.
