Getting Help With Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin

This coming Thursday marks the release of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin. Many users will download Ubuntu, try it and give up because of some small technical problem. Here is a list of tutorials and resources for Ubuntu beginners that I have found useful.

These are general information links about Ubuntu. Having a basic understanding will help you get help from others. If you’re still learning what a Live CD is or what the different flavors of Ubuntu are, do some more reading before calling on others.

Finding Ubuntu News

Downloading Ubuntu 12.04

If you’re just starting out with Ubuntu, here is the link to download the latest version. After downloading it you will need to burn this .ISO file to a CD and boot your computer to it.

Upgrading/Installing Ubuntu 12.04

A basic Ubuntu installation is fairly straight forward. Upgrading can be a little more tricky. In either case, here are some links that might help.

Help With Unity

When Ubuntu switched from Gnome to Unity, it sent shockwaves through the Linux community. Now that some improvements have been made and users have adjusted to the new interface, problems are less common. Still many beginners need a push in the right direction. For me patience was the key to getting used to Unity. Here are some excellent tutorials for customizing Unity on Ubuntu 12.04.


Ubuntu has thousands of entertainment applications to choose from. Here are a few tutorials to get you started.
