The Eraser Tool

The Eraser Tool, which is located in the Gimp Tool box, is used to erase anything that is displayed on the canvas or the image.

To use this tool, click on the Eraser Tool, choose from the options that are in the Eraser Options Box, and then click and drag in the area desired.

In the Eraser Options Box there are a few standard options to choose from, including choices much like the ones available in the Pencil, Paintbrush, and Airbrush Tools.

Opacity, Mode, Brush size, and Pressure Sensitivity may be set. A user can also toggle between having Incremental and Hard Edge Erasers.

Here in the example, the eraser tool is used to erase the green pasture in the middle of the photograph. To do this, click and drag to erase everything.

When performing an erasing task, Gimp does not make the erased area into another layer. Instead, it stays on the same layer.

Also note that the color of the eraser does not always have to be white.

The color is always determined by the background color that is set on in the Gimp Tool box.
